PSA: Stop Killing Older Brothers, I literally Can't Take it Anymore
I have watched my older brother die twelve different times.
I’ve seen him drown in a frozen lake trying to save his sister. I’ve watched as he threw himself in front of a shower of arrows while telling me to run. I’ve turned around to see him run back into a burning building just for the flames to beat him. I’ve seen his body harvested for the powers they hold and then used against me. I’ve seen him fight for his life and mine, only to be stabbed, and when he looked around for help, no one came to his aid.
I don’t know how to save him, and I’ve failed 12 times already. How can I shield a trope that haunts me in every last thing I watch and read?
Whether I see him as Jack Frost, Tadashi, Rei, Kai Smith, or Kayen, I always feel the same pain, like I could’ve reached deep enough into the screen that I could grab their hand and tell him it’s not worth it. That maybe playing inside instead of the ice was a better idea, or that the fire wasn’t worth your life.
Arthur was one of those cases.

| Go watch the show, it's amazing |
Throughout the run of BBC’s “Merlin,” Arthur is known as the Prince, the King, a golden warrior, master tactician, and just genuinely a good friend. I knew him as the older brother of Morgana. No matter what genuine nonsense their father Uther was spewing, these two were the most typical “ride-or-die's” you could possibly have. It’s been 10 years, but I’m fairly sure there’s a point where he physically fought with his father—again, big bad king man —to rethink his own philosophies as a leader just because he made Morgana upset. Morgana wasn’t even his sister by blood, but Arthur would have taken on any prophecy to save her. I just wish he wasn’t fated for this one. Arthur was to be the greatest King of Camelot, the one to “unite Albion,” and when he died, he was to come back at the hour of Camelot’s greatest need.
Arthur was fated to be killed by his sister.
The worst part? He could never be revived because he died during Camelot’s greatest need. He won, Camelot was saved, but the Pendragon line ceased to exist. Morgana was dead, and before Arthur physically died, his soul left with Morgana’s last breath, in spite of her betrayal.
When asked about fate and free will, I do believe there is fate, but it plays out based on the decisions you make. Arthur did in fact die saving his kingdom, but he chose to let his sister kill him. He very easily could’ve killed her; he wielded Excalibur after all. He’d still rather die by the same arms that once comforted him. Fate itself is a finnicky little thing. Knowing someone could be playing puppet master of your life, one can choose whether they want to find loopholes or let their strings be pulled. Arthur was no puppet. He was dealt the worst of cards and still found that he had the last ace in the deck. Free will. He made his choice.
I still wish I could’ve blocked Morgana’s sword strike in time, but Arthur died being who he wanted to be. He didn’t die thinking of his kingdom but thinking of his little sister.
When I see all these older brothers die, I know I can’t change it, but bhai, if you ever decide to do any self-sacrificing bull****, I will be stopping you.

I just realized this would've been a great time to analyze k-pop demon hunters but I cannot rewrite a blog- Instead, here's the song that explains it-
